Voltage Collapse Mechanism in Electric Power Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The heart of the voltage stability problem is the voltage drop that occurs when the power system experiences a heavy load, and one serious type of voltage instability is voltage collapse. In this paper, a mechanism of the dynamic phenomenon of voltage collapse is presented from the physical point of view. It is shown that an iterative reaction of voltage drop between a dynamic load and the system network can cause voltage collapse. The dynamic phenomenon of voltage collapse is analyzed on a simple power system model which includes a synchronous motor.

A New Method for Considering Distribution Systems in Voltage Stability Studies
In methods presented to calculate the voltage collapse point, the transmission system is usually the only part of the power system that is completely modeled. Distribution systems are often replaced by aggregate load models because the use of the detailed model of distribution systems in voltage stability analysis not only increases the computation time, but also decreases the probability of co...
متن کاملA Fast Voltage Collapse Detection and Prevention Based on Wide Area Monitoring and Control
Voltage stability is one of the most important factors in maintaining reliable operation of power systems. When a disturbance occurs in the power system, it usually causes instabilities and sometimes leads to voltage collapse (VC). To avoid such problems, a novel approach called Vector Analysis (VA) is proposed that exploits a new instability detection index to provide wide area voltage stabili...
متن کاملA Comparison between SVC and STATCOM in Flicker Mitigation of Electric Arc Furnace using Practical Recorded Data
Electric arc furnace (EAF) is one of the largest loads in electric power systems. It is highly time varying and nonlinear. Its reactive power variations cause voltage fluctuations in nearby system which is known as flicker. On the other hand the nonlinear voltage-current characteristic causes strong voltage and current harmonics in EAF. To this end Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) techn...

Abstruct-When a generator of a heavily loaded electric power system reaches a reactive power limit, the system can become immediately unstable and a dynamic voltage collapse leading to blackout may follow. We study the statics and dynamics of this mechanism for voltage collapse by example and by the generic theory of saddle node and transcritical bifurcations. Load power margin calculations can...
